All hats have the VV logo embroidered on the top of the hat in orange and the Victoria Verbaan and the smoking daxi label sewn onto the inner band.

Things to know about our Panama Hats

  • Every Panama is hand-woven in Ecuador by skilled local artisans and hand-painted in South Africa by Victoria Verbaan.
  • They are 100% toquilla straw, classic style with a black band.
  • Each hand-painted hat is unique and one-of-a-kind.  There is also the option to commission a painting on your hat as well as purchase it perfectly plain.  Each hat has the VV initial embroidered on the top of the hat and the 'Victoria Verbaan and the smoking daxi' label sewn onto the inside band.
  • As we only sell GENUINE Ecuadorian Panama hats, our Panamas will carry a mark inside the hat, which will have been placed on the straw hat body while still in Ecuador. This will be in the form of a small brown feint stamp, and should not be confused with a dirt mark.
Each genuine Panama hat is handwoven from Paja Toquilla, a natural straw. It is the weave which allows it to be easily packed for travelling - the finer the weave, the more supple and flexible the hat.Contrary to myth, however, not all Panama hat shapes are suitable for rolling!  We don't recommend rolling your hat especially if it has been hand-painted.

*Lead-time for painted or commissioned hats is 2-3 weeks.

To ensure you measure the circumference of your head correctly, the tape measure needs to be over the middle of your forehead, just above your ears and sit midway at the back of your head. Do not pull the tape too tightly unless you want your hat to be as tight. Measure yourself 2-3 times just to be as accurate as possible.

All our Classic hats have a brim size of aprox 6cm-7cm. Please remember that our hats are handmade, so the size may differ slightly.

As the proud owner of a Genuine Panama Hat, and to ensure many years of enjoyment from wearing your hat, it is important to remember that your hat is an individual piece of craftsmanship – it has been handwoven from a natural fibre, so treat it as such.

Treat your Panama with Care

  • Do not fold your Panama, or scrunch it up, as it will not only damage the shape of your hat, but also the straw could crack
  • Avoid pinching or crushing the natural fibre from the crown
  • Do not pull the hat from the edge of the brim
  • Protect your panama from rain as it will lose its shape
